Hundreds of residents disposed of an estimated 50 tonnes of waste at the mobile waste bin trucks in Hall Green, amid the city bin strike.
Crews parked up at the Baldwin Arms on Saturday (March 15) were given hot drinks, sandwiches and even sweets by “hugely appreciative” locals during their visit.
Last week, on Thursday, crews had to cut short a visit to MacKenzie Road in Sparkhill after allegedly receiving abuse and intimidation.

Police were deployed at the scene after rubbish was dumped at the roadside – which was then recovered.
On Friday, there were chaotic scenes after residents left their rubbish on the side of Blakesley Road in Yardley after the council only sent one bin lorry for collection.

Further lorries turned up an hour later and the waste was taken away.
Councillor Timothy Huxtable (Hall Green South) said Saturday’s collection “passed without incident” with residents helping the elderly. He said: “I was there for most of the day, and the main issue was accessing and entering the MHRC sites as it was so busy. “It was extremely well organised and efficient, the Baldwin Arms, who hosted the MHWC, laid on free hot drinks and sandwiches for the crews. “The street cleansing crews who operated the MHWC were brilliant, helping residents, and there were five vehicles rotating so at least three were on site at any one time. “Hundreds of Hall Green residents used the facility, and I estimate in excess of 50 tonnes were collected. “Residents were hugely appreciative of the MHWC and even brought sweets for the crews.”
Coun Huxtable is pushing for more visits while strike action continues.
