A £10 supermarket voucher was being offered to struggling Birmingham families who had been ‘shivering in their own homes’ this winter.

The offer comes from The Wise Group’s Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT), which provides help and guidance to those struggling to pay their utility bills.

Householders receive the voucher simply by receiving free advice from a service the team provides for anyone struggling with their fuel bills.

The service provides ‘invaluable’ advice, which could come in handy as Brits brace themselves for another energy price cap rise in April, taking the average annual household bill to £1,849 – an increase of 6.4 per cent.

“Nobody in this day and age should have to worry about whether they can afford to heat their homes,” said Sean Duffy, chief executive of The Wise Group.

“The idea of thousands of vulnerable people in Birmingham literally sitting shivering in their own homes because they’re terrified about the financial consequences of turning on the heat is appalling.”

Sean continued: “But our HEAT service can provide them with advice and practical help on all sorts of issues, including managing and controlling their energy usage, switching energy suppliers and tariffs, applying for financial support and accessing hardship funding.

“The service is completely free and I would urge anyone worried about their bills or freezing to death this winter to get in touch.”

The HEAT service, funded by Scottish Power, was available to all eligible households regardless of energy provider.

To access the service for advice and claim the £10 supermarket voucher, people can call 0800 092 9002 for free.
