Merry Hill issue statement after two schoolgirls ‘attacked by gang of children’


A 14-year-old girl suffered facial injuries in the incident

A pair of schoolgirls were attacked inside a shopping centre in an ordeal which left one with facial injuries.

The 14-year-old girls were set upon by a group of children on the upper level of Merry Hill in Dudley.

Police are investigating following the incident on Tuesday, February 18 at around 5.30pm.

And a spokesperson for Merry Hill shopping centre confirmed that they are working closely with officers as they work to find those responsible.

They told BlackCountryLive: “We are aware of the incident that took place on Tuesday afternoon and we are working closely with West Midlands Police in its investigation.

“Safety and security for our visitors and team remains our highest priority.

“Our security team work side-by-side with our dedicated police team and the wider West Midlands Police force on an ongoing basis to address any isolated incidents that may occur at the centre.”

West Midlands Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

A spokesperson said: “We are investigating an assault on two 14-year-old girls by a small group of other children at the Merry Hill shopping centre in Brierley Hill.

“The assault took place shortly before 5.30pm on Tuesday (18 Feb). One of the children sustained a facial injury.

“We are investigating and urge witnesses or anyone with any information to contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting crime reference number 20/149641/25 or 20/149671/25.”
