BBC viewers fume over change to beloved series being rebooted after 16 years

Following a sixteen-year hiatus, a hit game show is set to return to screens

Fans of telly have reacted strongly on social media after hearing news about Alison Hammond’s upcoming role in the revival of the much-loved game show, Hole In The Wall.

According to recent reports, the This Morning icon Alison, 50, is in line to host the BBC classic that’s returning after a sixteen-year break.

The game show that graced our screens on Saturday evenings showcased celeb teams who tackled quirky challenges trying to fit through odd-shaped gaps in moving walls. Dale Winton initially led it, joined by Strictly’s Anton du Beke and ex-cricketer Darren Gough as team captains.

While many welcome Hole In The Wall’s comeback, not everyone is thrilled with Alison taking over another well-known TV franchise. Heading to X, viewers shared their feelings.

One pointed out: “Is there NO ONE else available to ask to host this? Literally, no one gets hosting jobs except very few of the same people. It’s sooooooo boring!!!!”

Another stated: “Bringing it back isn’t a bad idea, but why go with Alison Hammond as the presenter? Personally, I would try it as a vehicle for a Richard Hammond comeback in game show hosting. I’d watch a Richard Hammond Hole In The Wall but I don’t think Alison Hammond would be a good fit.”

A further comment read: “I’ll give that a swerve. Same old recycled s**t. Latest flavour in TV presenters. Unoriginal.”

However, some fans are thrilled at the prospect of Alison stepping into the main role, reports the Manchester Evening News. One enthusiastic supporter posted: “OH MY GOD YES I HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR THIS FOR YEARS!!!! Alison would be the PERFECT host!!!”

A television insider shared with The Sun: “Hole In The Wall got great ratings when it first came out so the Beeb have decided to bring it back. They are currently filming the pilot to see how it shapes up. They wanted to sign Alison and she jumped at the chance to do it.

“She’s one of TV’s most in demand stars right now and the Beeb is over the moon that they’ve signed her. Alison adores her job and is always on the lookout for shows where she can have a real laugh -that’s why she loves presenting Bake Off and This Morning. They are light-hearted and fun.”
