All 36 closures were announced last May, when TSB – which is rivalled by the likes of Lloyds Bank, Santander, HSBC UK and more – said it was also planning to axe 250 jobs from its fraud and central operations departments, as well as the branches earmarked for closure.

At the time, a spokesperson said: “Our customers are now doing most of their banking digitally, and we need to move to a better balance of digital and face-to-face services. We remain committed to a national branch network and through innovation and integration with video, telephone, digital, branch and other face-to-face services TSB customers have more ways to bank with us than ever before.”

The latest closures include Whitchurch, Flint and Tenbury Wells as well as Bude, Amble, Aylsham, Crook and Bedlington. If your local branch is shutting, ITV and BBC star Martin Lewis’ team at Money Saving Expert has some advice.

It states: “See if there’s a TSB ‘pop-up’ near you. There are currently 47 of these across England, Scotland and Wales – you can check if there’s one near you on TSB’s website. In these pop-ups you can talk to a TSB staff member about general product enquiries, managing your existing payments, help with internet and mobile banking and more.”

MSE went on, adding: “However, most of these pop-up locations don’t have cash or counter services, so you won’t be able to manage your money there – the exception is the Nottingham pop-up, which has a counter where you can deposit and withdraw cash.”
