Emma Reynolds, the economic secretary to the treasury, said those with severe disabilities AND the most vulnerable would be “protected.” She made the claims to Susanna Reid while being interviewed and quizzed on ITV Good Morning Britain.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Monday, Ms Reynolds said: “We’ll set out further details, but the severely disabled and the most vulnerable will always get support, and there will always be a safety net.

“And some colleagues are jumping to conclusions about our plans before they’ve heard them, so I just urge them to be patient.” Ms Reynolds told Susanna: “I can’t comment on media speculation because Liz Kendall this week will set out further details of our reforms.
“We have a social security system that is failing – we need to embrace the talents of the younger generation, we are the only major economy that hasn’t recovered the employment rate since the pandemic.
“It’s about tailored support for people out of work who can work with the right support.” The Treasury minister said: “We have a big majority, we are a Government that secured a mandate for change. It is absolutely everyday business that we should have discussions with backbenchers, meetings between our MPs and ministers happen all day, every day.
“So this isn’t something that is any different, but we’re determined to strike the right balance here. We’ve got to reform a system that is failing everybody, and we’ve got to do that according to our values.”
Susanna said “a huge number of people are anxious”. Susanna questioned the Economic Secretary to the Treasury Ms Reynolds on whether the government will freeze PIP payments. Reynolds ensures the most vulnerable will always be protected.
Ms Reynolds said: “I’m not going to make an announcement on this this morning but what I can say to reassure you is those with severe disabilities AND the most vulnerable will always be protected.”
