BBC Countryfile presenter Matt Baker was back on screens this Sunday, and just moments into the show, he delivered a “special” piece of news to viewers. He announced that he was accompanied by a brand new presenter – Vick Hope.

In this latest episode, Vick joined Matt on her inaugural adventure in Kielder Forest, Northumberland. The pair explored how the region’s vast wilderness is being revitalised for the future, benefiting both wildlife and local residents.

Vick also had the opportunity to engage directly in conservation efforts at the Kielder Salmon Centre, assisting with the collection of juvenile freshwater pearl mussels. Introducing the programme, Matt said: “We have got a special episode for you today. I am in the largest manmade forest in the UK and exploring it with me is Countryfile’s newest presenter, Vick Hope.”

As they met in the forest, Vick embraced Matt, who remarked: “Vick, fancy seeing you in the forest.” To which Vick responded enthusiastically about her visit, particularly due to the preservation efforts of rare species, reports the Express.

Countryfile enthusiasts showed their approval for the newcomer, with one audience member stating on X: “New presenter fab #countryfile.” Another noted Vick’s relationship with DJ Calvin Harris, commenting: “DJ Calvin Harris’ missus. #countryfile.”

Vick Hope expressed her excitement about joining the ‘Countryfile’ presenting team, stating: “I’m delighted to be joining the Countryfile team – spending time in nature has always been hugely important to me, so the chance to learn ever more about the world around us from such beautifully diverse perspectives and such a passionate mix of people who live and breathe country life across the UK will be so special and enriching.”

She also reminisced about her childhood experiences near Kielder Forest, which is slated as the location for her first filming. “I grew up not too far from Kielder Forest, which is where my first filming will take place, and have fond memories of orienteering there as a child; the opportunity to return and champion an area that has meant so much to me as my first assignment is an incredible full circle moment – I can’t wait.”

In the same episode, regular presenter Adam Henson was seen delving into the practice of grazing livestock in woodland areas to enhance wildlife benefits.
