A 250-mile wall of snow looks set to hit England in days – with reports of 2.5cm depths of the white stuff. Centimetres of the white stuff is likely to blanket the country around March 12, with 2.5cm set to materialise across the country.

The maps and charts, from WX Charts, show snow across Northumberland in the north to Birmingham in the Midlands. Other parts of the country due to see now next Wednesday are Wiltshire, London, Essex, and West Sussex.

There are also reports snow could come with -5C lows – but plenty of counties are likely to escape. Despite the north east and Midlands being hit, it’s likely Gloucestershire, Somerset, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall come away unscathed.

Kent, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire may also be left untouched, alongside Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Northants and Berkshire.

Hampshire could also be left untouched alongside Norfolk and Suffolk. In the short term, a BBC Weather forecast explained: “Today, much of the UK will be cloudy with spells of rain pushing in from the south at times. The far north and the far southeast will remain dry with sunny periods, however. Another mild day.

“Tonight, much of the south will turn dry and clear. However, the far southwest will still see some showers and it will turn breezy. Cloud remaining in the north with patchy rain. A mild night.” Its Saturday (March 8) outlook adds: “Tomorrow will turn dry with sunshine for most of the UK. However, in the far north, cloud and rain will persist.

“The far southwest will also see variable cloud and some showers. Staying mild.” The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday adds: “Sunday will be a dry, mild and bright day for most, but Scotland will see rain lingering in the north, and the far south-west could see some showers. Another mild day. Turning cooler on Monday.

“Areas of cloud will move into the north and east with the chance of a few spells of rain and hill snow over Scotland. Cool on Tuesday with scattered showers for some, wintry on the hills.”
