Sabrina Carpenter has been hit with over 800 Ofcom complaints after her X-rated BRIT Awards performance, which saw her and her dancers deliver a very steamy routine

Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter’s risqué performance at the BRIT Awards has sparked a flurry of Ofcom complaints, with viewers taken aback by her provocative dance moves. The starlet opened the annual music awards ceremony on Saturday night with performances of her hits Espresso and Bed Chem.

Dressed in a red lacy outfit, she and her dancers performed to the suggestive song. The show was aired live on ITV and ITVX from 8:15pm, well before the 9pm watershed, leaving some viewers disgruntled.

Her routine concluded with her kneeling in front of a male dancer who then gave a knowing wink to the camera. Viewers quickly took to social media to voice their reactions, with one writing: “RIP to the 9pm watershed,” while another commented: “Well this is just an awkward watch sat with the parents.”

A third posted: “I love sabrina so much cos I can see the British public reporting this to ofcom immediately,” and a fourth remarked: “Bit inappropriate for an awards show….”

As many predicted a deluge of complaints to Ofcom, it has been confirmed that the awards show received 825 complaints from viewers, reports the Mirror.

Ofcom verified that the majority of the complaints were related to Sabrina Carpenter’s opening dance routine and Charlie XCX’s outfit. .

This is not the first time that BRITS viewers have been left outraged by performances. Two years ago, a total of 106 complaints were lodged, with many taking issue with Sam Smith’s rendition of their provocative hit Unholy, citing the use of strong language and depiction of drinking.

In 2020, ITV faced a backlash of 309 complaints to Ofcom, with many labelling Dave’s scathing rap about Boris Johnson as “racist”. The UK rapper had branded the former Prime Minister “racist” and slammed his handling of the Windrush scandal.

However, Ofcom revealed that 257 viewers had actually complained that Dave’s performance was “racist in itself”. Stormzy’s performance during the same show also sparked 39 complaints, with viewers alleging that it contained racist elements.

The media watchdog ultimately dismissed the complaints against Dave and Stormzy, stating that it was “not uncommon for artists to express personal political views during their performances”. Back in 2007, comedian Russell Brand faced 262 objections after making risqué jokes about body parts, drugs, Iraq, the Queen, and Robbie Williams.

However, Ofcom ultimately rejected the complaints, ruling that the jokes were “on the margins of suitability”, despite the show being broadcast live with a 30-second delay at 8pm. In the wake of some raised eyebrows, Sabrina Carpenter took to social media to reflect on whether her performance was suitable for family viewing.

She uploaded a collection of snaps from the event, featuring behind-the-scenes moments and her appearance on the BRITs red carpet. Accompanying her post, Sabrina playfully remarked: “Brits i now know what watershed is! ! ! !” Admirers were quick to commend the star, with one fan expressing: “They can never make me hate you sweety.”

Another chimed in: “sabrina carpenter the pop princess that you are.”

A third admirer declared: “QUEEN SHAKING THE NATION.”

Meanwhile, another follower commented: “she leaves quite an impression!” At the BRITs ceremony, Sabrina was honoured with the Global Success Award, marking her as the first international artist to receive this accolade, joining past recipients such as Adele and Ed Sheeran.

Other memorable incidents at the awards included Danny Dyer’s expletive-laden outburst, which ITV chose to silence. The former EastEnders actor didn’t hold back his candid views on prime minister Keir Starmer.

While conversing with host Jack Whitehall at his table, Danny referenced his new movie, likening it to Bridget Jones, followed by the use of an offensive term. When prompted by Jack to name the “c*** of the year” he bluntly responded: “Keir Starmer,” further describing the state of global leadership with a string of expletives.

The moment was censored by ITV during the broadcast and later in the evening, Danny introduced a video message from Chappell Roan, noting she “couldn’t be f***ed to be here”. Furthermore, BRITs viewers expressed their shock at host Jack Whitehall’s gag about P Diddy following JADE’s performance of ‘Angel of My Dreams’ dressed in all-white.

Whitehall quipped about Diddy’s infamous ‘white parties’, a move that upset fans. One viewer tweeted, “Jack Whitehall making a Diddy joke was so tasteless and tone deaf. #BRITs2025,” while another posted: “Mentioning Diddy after the whole, very blatant, message of JADEs performance ? ? ? Get this man off my screen #brits2025.”
