‘I’m on Jobseekers Allowance – what time will I be paid?’

A ‘worried’ benefit claimant has questioned whether payment times could differ as they’d noticed a ‘change from the norm’.

The Reddit user said they had yet to receive their Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) despite it usually landing in their bank account by 12.30am.

At 2.10am, they asked fellow forum users for advice and said: ” Can JSA change time it goes in bank?

“I haven’t received my JSA today – I haven’t received a letter to say it’s been stopped or anything and normally it goes in my bank about half 12. I’m worried as I have bills coming out today.”

One response read: “Can sometimes be a delay… which is not helpful if you have bills due today.

“Call first thing in the morning. Usually payments appear within a few hours so might appear in the middle of the night or morning.

“I’m just guessing here as a similar thing happened with my Universal Credit last month and it appeared in the morning.”

Another said: “It can go any anytime up to 8pm on the day, but ring today for your peace of mind.”

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) uses the Bankers’ Automated Clearing Services (BACS) payment system for Jobseeker’s Allowance payments, with money usually going into accounts between midnight and early morning.

Halifax previously told a customer that payment from DWP could be “credited anywhere between midnight and 4am”.

A bank spokesperson added: “If the payment doesn’t arrive, please contact the DWP.”

The gov.uk website states that JSA payments were “usually” paid every two weeks.

However if payments have not been received then people can contact the JSA helpline on 0800 169 0310.
