New forecast maps show the exact date and regions of the UK that could see snow next weekend, with one expert warning of ‘widespread’ snowfall in parts of the country
UK weather forecasters have unveiled the likelihood of snow blanketing parts of the country, with new weather maps from WXCharts pinpointing exactly where Britons could witness wintry flurries.
Next weekend, March 8-9, could see a 50% chance of snow in large swathes of Scotland, according to the charts, and on Sunday, eastern Scotland has the same odds for snowfall.
Chances vary across northern England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with a 10 to 40% likelihood of experiencing a dusting, while southern regions are expected to avoid even a sprinkle.
The upcoming week’s outlook from Netweather.tv, covering Monday, March 3 to Sunday, March 9, suggests varied conditions: “This week will be predominantly changeable with mainly westerly and south-westerly winds, and low-pressure systems frequently moving from west to east to the north of Britain.
High pressure will be relatively close to the southeast early in the week, promising relatively dry and settled weather for East Anglia and southeast England, but this will probably get pushed away towards midweek as low pressure to the north becomes more dominant.”

It adds: “Otherwise, rain bands will frequently move from west to east, interspersed with brighter, showery weather. Strong winds may feature at times, particularly in north-western Britain, with potential for Britain to see one or two named storms during the week.”
Temperatures are expected to be above average at the start of the week before returning to normal by the middle of the week. Showers could turn wintry, especially in the north, due to the arrival of polar maritime air, but significant snow is likely to be confined to high ground in the region, reports the Mirror.
“Temperatures will be above normal early in the week but are forecast to fall to near normal overall during the mid to latter part of the week.
“There is potential for showers to turn wintry on occasion, especially in the north, when we get brighter showery weather associated with polar maritime air, but substantial lying snow is expected to be limited to high ground in the north.”
