Virgin Media has been hit with an outage that’s left thousands of users without internet across the Midlands and wider UK.

At the time of writing, over 9,600 Virgin Media users have reported issues with their service on Downdetector, leaving many to flood the website’s comment section to share in their anguish.

One user wrote: “Same here in the West Midlands (Wednesbury) – trying desperately to work from home but no internet and can’t access the Virgin Media app to check service status – just says can’t connect to.”

On Downdetector’s map, various areas are highlighted in which most of the reports have come from, including Birmingham.

Elsewhere, problems have been reported in Manchester, Nottingham, Plymouth, and London, along with numerous reports throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Many took their grievances to social media, with one writing on X: “Wifi issues again and unable to access any Virgin Media help as it seems nothing is working… My Virgin Media, web pages etc…” Another added: “Oh look, Virgin Media is on fire again. Must be the weekly outage.”

A spokesperson for Virgin Media said: “We are aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with their services. We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to fix this as a priority.”

However, the peak of the problem may have passed, with some users reporting that some areas are regaining connectivity.

“I suspect it will be gradual across different areas as the service is slowly being restored. Hopefully Virgin Media will get it sorted soon,” another user wrote.

Connectivity issues don’t appear to be isolated to Virgin Media, with Microsoft 365 and BT users also flagging problems this morning.

User Tom Johnson wrote: “Can’t access anything on work laptop from home – internet, Teams, Outlook. However I can still use Alexa etc.”

There have been over 400 reports on BT on Downdetector, and over 500 for Microsoft 365.

Again, there have been reports against both these providers across Birmingham and the Midlands, though not to the same extent as Virgin Media.
